But the rate at which physical change can be seen is most notable during the first trimester of pregnancy. Your baby can be seen by ultrasound around 5 weeks 5 days. A heart beat can be visualized as a tiny flash in the center of something that resembles a very small bean. At this stage your baby is less than 1gram and about 0.13 inches. At 9weeks it is easy to recognize the head, abdomen, and the beginnings of arms and legs, baby is now 0.07 ounces and is about the size of a grape. By 14 weeks baby is now the size of a lemon weighing around 1.5 ounces and about 3.5 inches long.
Elective ultrasounds at this time conducted in short intervals by a licensed professional are a good way to bond with baby. Even though baby is moving, mom will not feel these movements for several more weeks. If there are no symptoms that would be a cause for concern (in which case you should contact your medical provider immediately) Elective ultrasounds are a good way to ease an anxious mother. In a 2D elective session you can expect to see the heart beating and watch baby move. A sneak peak in 3D 4D ultrasound will likely show baby's entire body. These sessions can be a fun way to announce pregnancy to family and friends. It helps younger siblings understand what is in Mommy's tummy.
